

Alvin was born on November 5, 1928 in Duckenfield, St. Thomas to Deodine "Donald" Serabjit Singh and Margaret Keddo. He was raised by his aunt Roslyn. At the age of 22, Alvin had his first son Philbert.
During his early 20's, Alvin met the love of his life Joyce and they were married on June 21, 1953 in Golden Grove, St. Thomas. They moved Airy Castle where they lived for a year then moved to Golden Grove Barracks when he worked at Jamaica Sugar Estate.. They had three daughters, Amru, Jeanie (deceased) and Sheyrle and two sons, Jimmy and Trevor (deceased).
In 1960 Alvin left Jamaica on a two-week journey on board SS Acania bound for England in search of a better life. Joyce joined Alvin in EngIand in 1961. They had four more daughters, Maxine, Loraine, Sharon and Dawn. In 1968 Alvin and Joyce purchased their first home in Thornton Heath.
Alvin had several jobs in England which included an ice-cream factory and Wonder Loaf Bakery. After taking electrical courses he worked at Bailey's Meters, GEC, and lastly at Bristol Babcock as a wireman/fitter.
In 1987, Alvin, Joyce and Dawn emigrated from England to the US and settled in Miramar, Florida. The remaining children followed shortly after.
Alvin worked part-time at Publix for a few years but enjoyed his retirement.
Although Alvin suffered hardship when he was young he went on to live a full and productive life. He was a hard worker and provided for his family. Alvin enjoyed music, cooking but his great passion was "fixing".
