Ana J Lopez

Ana was born on April 14, 1932, in Bogota, Colombia, to the late Dario Torres and Maria Melania Torres. She attended school in Bogota and later married Miguel Lopez in Bogota. Together, they built a family and shared many years of life together.

Ana began her working career as a clerk with the Colombian Ministry. She later moved to New York with Miguel and their daughters, where she worked for Krauss Meat Company as a meat packer. She also briefly worked for the New York Police Department as a school crossing guard.

In 1978, Ana moved to Miami Beach, Florida, with her daughter Linda Vezina. There, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Miami Beach Housing Authority. She also worked as a cashier and customer service representative before retiring after several years as a Certified Teacher's Aide.

Ana was proud to call the United States her home. During the 1980s, she became involved in local government and was never hesitant to express her support for candidates she believed in. She was especially proud to become a naturalized citizen of the United States and faithfully exercised her right to vote.

Ana was a devoted Catholic whose faith was an important part of her life. She will be remembered for her strength, determination, hard work, patriotism, and deep love for her family.

Ana was preceded in death by her parents, Dario Torres and Maria Melania Torres; her husband, Miguel Lopez; her brothers, Alberto Torres and Tiberio Torres; her sisters, Maria Antonia Torres and Lilia Rubio; her daughter, Sonia Lopez; and her grandchildren, Orazio Castellana Jr. and Omoro Howard.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children and their spouses, Linda Michelle and Troy Vezina, and Ana and Orazio Castellana Sr; her siblings, Luis Eduardo Torres, Betty Concannon, and Carmen Gomez; her grandchildren, Jasmine Vezina, Austin Vezina, Ana Maria Vera, Lizette Sanchez, and Luis Sanchez; and her great-grandchildren, Sonia Vera, Aaliyah Vera, Mariah Vera, Kayla Castellana, Gabriela Castellana, Darius Palmer, and her great Grandchild, Gabrielle Palmer.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida.

Arrangements are being handled by Fred Hunter Funeral Home.

The family of Ana J. Lopez wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to VITAS Hospice of Sunrise, as well as to their friends and family, for the love, care, prayers, and support extended to Ana and her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Ana's memory.

Ana's life was one of courage, perseverance, faith, and love. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
