Angela was born in Trinidad & Tobago to Richard Leekang & Clarissa Cato on July 5th, 1926. She went to school at Morne Diablo Government School. In Trinidad she started out working as a cashier at Kingling restaurant and then later managed a cafeteria known as “Johnson Snack-It” for 10+ years where she met her soon to be husband Ernest Schaefer. She and Ernest married on the 28th of May 1966 in Santa Cruz, California. Ernest was a master carpenter and worked several major worldwide construction projects. During the late 60’s and 70’s Ernest and Angela traveled extensively for these projects. They lived in Thailand, New Zealand, Australia, Libya, Egypt, Spain, and New Mexico. Upon retirement, Angela and Ernest continued their travel adventures in a motor home and commenced on a road trip of the United States and Canada which covered over 12,000 miles. Upon completion of this trip in 1986 they settled in Hollywood, Florida.
Angela Schaefer was an active member of the West Side Baptist Church for several years. She also volunteered at the Hepburn Community Center where they fed and cared for the homeless. Her passion for helping others earned her a certificate from the City of Hallandale Beach Human Services Department in recognition of her deep commitment and outstanding devotion as a volunteer.
Angela Schaefer is preceded in death by her husband Ernest Schaefer and her son Glen Schaefer. She is survived by her son Trevor Leekang, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10:30am on Tuesday June 27th, 2023, followed by funeral services at 1:30pm at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow the service and be held at Fred Hunter’s Hollywood Memorial Gardens North.
The family of Angela Schaefer extends our sincere thanks to Wilton Manors Health & Rehabilitation Center for their care of Angela and services over the last few years.
Angela was called home for higher service. She entered into paradise to fulfill her role of one of God’s angels. We know that she is gone in flesh, but she will always be in our hearts. Her kindness is irreplaceable. Until we meet again we know that she will be watching over us.
