Anthony J. Baldino, 89, of Dania Beach, Florida wanted to spend another anniversary with his beloved wife of 68 years,Sara, on October 2nd and that he did. He passed only two days later on October 4th, 2016 after his wife kissed him goodnight. That day his three children Anthony, Jim, Doreen and his daughter-in-law, Rosanne, surrounded him with love.
Anthony, also known as Toye or Tony had many other monikers; boss, chairman, king B,and of course, big gun, that were acquired during the many roles in his illustrious life. Beginning with his stint in the Navy during WWII, he was an elite member of the greatest generation who embodied every attribute therein of personal responsibility, duty, honor, faith and humility.
His Navy experience as a machinist and position in training other corps members led to his 34 year career in the Board of Education where he was a commanding presence in all leadership roles from teacher to principal to Assistant to the Chancellor.
Along the way there was a limousine business that incorporated wedding, funerals, driving banking officials, and in the day, transportation to the Catskills. Those years as a successful businessman, he always counseled family members and mentored them in the business world with a strong foundation in education.
During his lifetime, he was always an impeccable dresser with two cigars standing proudly in his breast pocket. He enjoyed having a good time joking with family and friends, dancing the Cha Cha and Lindy, and singing along with the Three Tenors, Jimmy Roselli and Frank Sinatra with a scotch on the rocks in his hands.
There were also his two favorite passions: bowling and golf. He started bowling in his youth in Brooklyn, NY and continued for another 80 years. When he was teaching, he coached bowling and often scored games over 250. With his wife Sara, they bowled on many leagues, sometimes two or three times a week. Often times he would arrange golfing outings with his brother and brother-in-laws that were all day events leading to many jokes and conversations into the evening.
In retirement, he became the President of the Danians Condominium Association, a post he held for 20 years. Again, leadership was his forte and with his brother Joe they were a formidable force in overseeing the condo's management. So close was his immediate family that when his brother and sisters retired, they all moved to the same community and brought their mother along with them. Every Saturday night there was a poker game, lots of laughter, and flowing glasses of wine. In their lifetime, never a cross word among them; and in-death he is laid to rest by his sisters Fay, Angie and brother-in-laws Louie, Charlie and Sal.
Throughout his 89 years, he had impacted the lives of all those he encountered, whether pauper or king, everyone was treated with the utmost respect with an offering hand of friendship. As patriarch of the family and a father figure to all, there was always time for individual guidance and counsel with an extra measure of care and concern.
Every family member was enveloped with unconditional love and support for he lived for his family. He was husband to Sara; father to Anthony, Jim and Doreen; and his daughter-in-laws Gi Gi and Rosanne; Grandpa to Joe, Michael, Christine, Danielle, James, Christopher, Jaclyn and Janine; Great-Grandpa to Carmela, Caia, Luca, Gia, Ava, Leyna, Nicholas and James.
To put it simply he was "a man among men."
