A Life of Grace, Devotion, and Inspiration
Celebrating the Life of a Cherished Wife, Mother, Grand-Mother, Aunt, Friend, and Teacher
It is with deep sadness and profound gratitude that we commemorate the life of a remarkable woman Avis Theresa Finley —beloved wife, nurturing mother, grandmother, devoted aunt, steadfast friend, and inspiring teacher. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her legacy will forever be cherished in the hearts she touched.
A Devoted Partner in Life’s Journey
She was, first and foremost, the loving wife to her partner and confidant Clive Finley (deceased). Their union was built on a foundation of unwavering support, mutual respect, and enduring affection. Together, they navigated life’s joys and challenges side by side, building a home filled with laughter, warmth, and belonging. Her commitment to her marriage was evident in every thoughtful gesture and every quiet sacrifice, and her love was a steady light, guiding her family through both calm and stormy seas.
A Mother’s and sister’s Unconditional Love
As a mother, she was the very heart and soul of the family. She is survived by her son Floyd, daughter-in-law Patricia (Lee-Loy), grand-daughter Amanda, grandson Ryan and dedicated nephew Bevin. She was a sister to Idris (deceased), Alethea (deceased), Silma (deceased), Shirley, Margaret, Thecla and extended sister Virginia Rolston. With so many sisters she was a loving aunt to Celeste, Jacinta, Arlene, Dale (deceased), Debra, Charmaine, Richard, Adelade, Barry, Alister (deceased), Richard D, Giselle, Bevin and Devin. She extended her nurturing spirit to all those close to her with a blend of gentle wisdom, patience, and boundless love. She will be remembered as “The Sweet Woman”, “Gyal”, “Aunty Avis” and the “Get Happy” person. Her wisdom and influence she provided to others helped shaped their characters, professionalism and professions. Through every season of their lives, she was their biggest champion—celebrating their triumphs, comforting them in times of sorrow, and teaching them to greet the world with kindness and courage.
The Aunt Who Treasured Every Moment
Her love extended far beyond the walls of her own home. To her many nieces and nephews, she was more than an aunt—she was a trusted confidante, a source of joy, and a pillar of strength. She delighted in their laughter, celebrated their achievements, and offered her wisdom and guidance with an open heart and a listening ear. Family gatherings were brought to life by her infectious spirit and her ability to make everyone feel special and included.
A True Friend, Always Near
Friendship, to her, was both a joy and a sacred trust. She cultivated deep, lasting bonds with those around her, always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or a shoulder to lean on. Her friends speak of her loyalty, her sense of humor, and her remarkable ability to make others feel seen and valued. She was there in moments of celebration and comforted in times of sorrow—a presence marked by empathy, understanding, and genuine care. A true and dedicated friend to the Rolstons, Juliens, Solanos and Reyes families.
An Inspiring Teacher and Guide
At heart, she was a lifelong learner and a passionate educator. In the classroom, she inspired countless students with her dedication, creativity, and belief in everyone’s potential. She approached teaching not merely as a profession, but as a calling—igniting curiosity, encouraging critical thinking, and nurturing the unique gifts of every student. Her lessons reached far beyond textbooks, instilling values of compassion, integrity, and perseverance.
Colleagues will remember her for her mentorship and her willingness to go above and beyond for both students and peers. Her classroom was a place of respect, encouragement, and growth—a sanctuary where young minds could flourish and dreams were born.
Her Gentle Spirit and Lasting Legacy
Throughout her life, she embodied the virtues of kindness, generosity, and humility. Whether through a smile offered to a stranger, a meal cooked for a friend in need, or the countless small acts of service she performed without fanfare, she enriched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her home was a haven of comfort and hospitality—a place where neighbors, friends, and family were always welcomed with open arms and an open heart.
Her faith, hope, and quiet determination carried her through life’s challenges with grace and dignity. She met adversity not with bitterness, but with resolve and compassion—teaching those around her the true meaning of resilience.
A Life Well Lived
As we remember her, we celebrate a life defined not by the years she spent on this earth, but by the love she gave and the legacy she leaves behind. Her laughter will echo in the stories shared around the dinner table, her wisdom will guide her children and grandchildren, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She taught us that the greatest measure of a person is the kindness they show, the lives they touch, and the love they leave behind. Though she may have departed from this world, her example endures—a guiding star that will continue to inspire generations to come.
In Remembrance
We invite all who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her memory. Let us gather to share stories, to support one another, and to celebrate a life so beautifully lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice, or that you simply perform an act of kindness in her memory.
May her legacy of love, teaching, and friendship continue to shine—reminding us always to cherish one another, to offer grace and understanding, and to live each day with an open heart.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
