

Avis E. (Gordon) Smith of Sunrise, Florida, formerly of The Bronx, New York passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 under the care of Vitas Hospice and surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years old.
Born in Westmoreland, Jamaica on October 27, 1931, the daughter of Rev. Robert Gordon and Sarah (Hutchinson) Gordon. As the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, she and her family moved frequently within Jamaica, living in Retirement, St. Elizabeth, Askenish, Hanover, Mount Carmel, Clarendon, as well as Kingston, where she worshipped at Scots Kirk United Church for a number of years.
In 1967, Avis moved to The Bronx in New York where she worked as an Administrative Assistant with Lighthouse International and OPEIU Local 153 for many years. Following her retirement, Avis moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she was a longtime member of the Florida Bible Church and the New Horizon United Methodist Church.
Survived by her devoted son, Robert A. Drummond, granddaughter, Asia Drummond, brother, Kingsley Gordon and his wife, Vida Gordon, sister, Lois Davis and her husband, Karl Davis, brother-in-law Louis Matthews, and nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends on Monday morning, December 22nd from 10:00 ~ 11:00 A.M. at the New Horizon United Methodist Church, 5741 South Flamingo Road, Southwest Ranches, Florida immediately following with a funeral service with The Rev. Rafe Vigil officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
