Barbara Marjorie Stewart

A celebration of life will take place in St Augustine, FL at a date to be determined.

Barbara was born in Philadelphia, PA in March of 1942. She graduated from John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, PA, where she was a member of the Honor Society and captain of the swimming team. She also received award certificates for stenography, office practice and cooperative office education. .

Barbara married Jim Stewart, and they had two children, John and Jennifer.Barbara and Jim eventually split, and she spent the ensuing years in North Miami with her partner, Bob Axelrod, who passed away in 2005.

Barbara had a career as a buyer for Royal Caribbean International and Kloster Cruise Limited (Norwegian Cruise Line) in Miami, FL for 16 years. Prior to this, she worked as Secretary to the Operations Manager at Florida Export Group (Greyhound Leisure Services) in Miami, as a Medical Secretary for Philip Grossman, M.D., and as an Office Manager for Kolins International Detectives in Philadelphia.

Barbara was an avid reader, boater and volunteer. She enjoyed her books and bookclubs, boating on the weekends with Bob and their friends, and traveling. Barbara was also actively involved in volunteer work for the Friends of Miami Library, the Miami Film Festival and the Dome Condominum Association. She was also a devoted fan of the Miami Heat.

Barbara is survived by her children John Stewart of Marlton, NJ and Jennifer King of West Hartford, CT, grandchildren Miranda, Jamie, Eli, Amani and Amanda, niece Carolyn and nephew Larry Jr.

Barbara is preceded in death by her partner Bob Axelod, her parents Fred and Lillian Wright, and her sister Carolyn Dougherty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to Friends of Miami-Dade Public Library.
