

Betty Lou (Haight) Scanlon (Betty Boop) age 86, of Loxahatchee FL(also Margate, FL, Pembroke Pines, FL, Toms River, NJ, Paterson, NJ) passed away at home December 17, 2014 after a 6 year battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on July 9, 1928 to Douglas and Mabel Haight. She was a former member of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Royal Palm Beach FL & later attended Palms West Alliance Church in Loxahatchee. She was married to her late husband of 39 years, Richard J. Scanlon. He passed away September 27, 1995.
Betty is survived by her children, Holly Beaton (Bud) of Toms River NJ; Karen Cox (Robert) of Loxahatchee, FL; Mark Scanlon (Chris) of Pompano Beach FL; grandchildren Todd Meyer, Jacquelyn Saliski (Tom), John Beaton, Brooke Jones (Ryan), Derek Tardonia, Chase Scanlon; great grandchildren Christian & Corrine Saliski & Christian Jones; sisters, Vivian Costine & Evelyn Boeckles (John) and brother Reginald Haight (Maude); many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Hilpertshauser, Lillian Pearston, her twin sister Beatrice Mues; brothers Gordon Haight & Douglas Haight.
Betty had a smile that could light up a room; she loved her family, who always came first; she loved Jesus, church, babies, singing, going out to eat; she was a hard worker all her life; even at the age of 80 she was bringing in the Publix shopping carts from the parking lot! She had an indomitable spirit and refused to submit to this ugly disease.
Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband at Hollywood Memorial Gardens North, 3001 North 72nd Avenue in Hollywood. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Palms West Alliance Church, 16401 Southern Blvd in Loxahatchee.
