Bibi Shira Ghani

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Bibi Shira Ghani was born Bibi Shira Rasul on Wednesday, March 20, 1929 in DeKendren West Coast Demerara, Guyana. Her parents, Jaitoon and Rasul, had 12 other children in addition to our beloved grandmother. Many of them passed away early on in life, but we were so fortunate to have our grandmother live until the blessed age of 88. Our grandmother was one of those people that God granted a life that was not only long, but was also full of blessings, an honor she was given no doubt because of the kind of person she was and the kind of life she lived.

At the age of 15 she married, our dear grandfather, Abdool Ghani. She had 10 amazing children, 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.

She moved to Bronx, New York in January 1981 where she cared for and took care of so many of her grandchildren. She never left our grandfather's side. In 2001, they moved to Hollywood, Florida. After grandfather passed away, she made it very clear that her desire was to continue to live in her own place because she was a completely self-less person. She didn't want any of her children to be burdened, even though any one of them would have gladly had her.

It was an honor to know her, to be a part of her life. Although she has left us, she will still remain a part of each and every one of us. Through the upbringing of her children, and their upbringing of their children, and so on.

She will truly be missed, but never forgotten.
