Robert M Lee Jr, 84, the owner of Bob's Speed Products, passed away on April 17, 2023. He had 2 brothers, Charles and Rich, and 3 sisters, Ann, Melissa, and Becky. He leaves 3 sons, Tim, Todd, and Rick, and 2 daughters, Lee and Robyn. Although his shop and racing were his passions, Bob was extremely proud of his family, and extended family of friends he made thru his shop and racing.
He began drag racing in the 50’s while in high school and was a member of the National Hot Rod Association since 1953. He was NHRA C/Altered state champion for eight years and held the C/Altered record.
He opened Bob’s Speed Products in 1963 and was in business for 50 years, one of the oldest speed shops in town.
He joined the Sports Car Club of America in 1975 and began road racing. He won dozens of awards in many different vehicles and classes including 12 and 24 hour endurance races. He was also a member of FARA, FIA, and IMSA.
A few of his accolades include being voted as one of the NHRA's Golden 50 in 2004 at Indy, and inducted into the East Coast Drag Times Hall of fame in 2009. He raced with and against numerous racing legends throughout his racing career.
