

Carolyn Dillon Ewald, 88, formerly of Davie passed away Feb. 26, 2016. She was born June 20, 1927 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Len and Catherine (Holden) Dillon and attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart.
She married John McConnell and together they had 1 child, Jeff McConnell. At the age of 23, Carolyn became a widow and 3 years later married John Ewald, Sr., they had 7 children and relocated to the sunshine in Coral Gables, FL, in 1965.
Carolyn worked at the Museum of Science in Miami for 3 years. Shortly thereafter, she passionately worked with the children and staff at Ransom Everglades Middle School in Coconut Grove as Assistant to the Headmaster and as a typing teacher for 20 years.
She moved to Davie and lived in Pine Island Ridge for over 20 years. Carolyn acquired a part time position at the Bombay Company where she worked for 9 years. She volunteered with the Christ Child Society, Cub Scouts and the schools her children attended including St. Theresa, Epiphany, Columbus and Lourdes. Carolyn loved helping others, ballroom dancing, planting in the garden, baking chocolate chip cookies, feeding the birds and ducks and her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all hearts she touched during her lifetime.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Jeff McConnell, Cynthia Zellner, Joe Ewald, Michael Ewald, Nancy Willis, Bob Ewald and Paul Ewald; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Millis; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John McConnell and John Ewald, Sr.; son, John Ewald, Jr.; sister, Celeste Schaefer and brother, Len Dillon.
Her "Celebration of Life" will be held at Fred Hunter's University Drive Home, 2401 S. University Dr. in Davie. Visitation and Prayer Service 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and Reception Celebration 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016. The Celebration Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Saint David Catholic Church, 3900 S. University Dr. in Davie, the Committal will be held from 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, 11411 N.W. 25th Street in Miami.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to support the Alumni Scholarship Fund at Ransom Everglades School in Memory of Mrs. Carolyn Ewald. This particular fund supports the School's financial-aid program. It allows individuals that meet the school's rigorous academic standards to have the opportunity to attend Ransom Everglades regardless of their financial circumstances.
