

Charles B. Durrett, 73, of Plantation Florida passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Plantation Hospital following a lengthy illness. Charles was born on October 15, 1939 in Aliceville, Alabama, son of Joseph B. and Margaret (Winston) Durrett. Charles was a proud graduate of the University of Mississippi and later served in the Air National Guard. Charles married Mary Gail Dabney 50 years ago. They have two daughters, Elizabeth Taylor and Elaine Cozart and four grandchildren, Shelby Elizabeth Taylor, Brantley Lauren Taylor, Mackenzie Brooke Cozart, and Camden Bennett Cozart. Charles is also survived by his sister Margaret Durrett Gentry, his twin sister Ann Randall, and his brother Joe B. Durrett.
In 1971 Charles moved his family from Huntsville Alabama to Fort Lauderdale to take a position in the Florida Department of Transportation. He subsequently transferred to HRS where he served out his career as Director of Personnel. As a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Plantation Charles was active and engaged in numerous departments. In 1980 he moved the family's membership to Sheridan Hills Baptist Church in Hollywood Florida where for 30 years he worked as deacon, Sunday school director, and in any other role asked of him. Charles was a man known for his generosity of spirit and his willingness to help anyone at any time whether it was convenient for him or otherwise. He spent his time here serving his God, his church, his family and his friends.
Memorial Service and Celebration of Charles' Life will be held Saturday, April 13th at 10:30 A.M. at the Sheridan Hills Baptist Church, Hollywood, Florida 33021. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend.
