Christina Caragiulo was born in Mola di Bari, Italy, to Giuseppe and Giovanna Perrone on December 26, 1929. As a baby, onlookers would say, “what a beautiful little doll”. From that time forward, she gained the nickname “Pupetta” or “Little Doll”. As a child, she went to school in Mola. Her father was a farmer, known in Mola as “Peppino di Coratotino,” and he grew many varieties of produce and poultry, and her mother raised eight children cooking and baking daily. As a young adult, she was formally educated as a dress maker in Mola. She married her one and only true love, Marino Caragiulo on June 5, 1954 in her hometown at the church she attended regularly, Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena. In 1955, she moved to the United States of America, specifically, Brooklyn, New York. There, she worked for many years as a dressmaker of high-end evening gowns sold in upscale Manhattan stores. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a sister of her patron saint, Madonna de Loreto. She prayed the rosary often, was a skilled chef, baker, painter and gardener.
