(December 22, 1934 - July 27, 2024)
Mrs. Consuel Murray died peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Consuel was born in Greenwich Town in Kingston, Jamaica West Indies on
December 22, 1934. She was the youngest of four children to immigrant
parents of East Indian heritage.
She left Jamaica in her early twenties to travel to London, England to
pursue a career in Nursing. Her resilience, ambition and strength are
obvious as it must have been daunting for her to leave home from so far
away to travel to London. It was there on the ship to London that she met
an older lady who later introduced her nephew to Consuel. This man later
became Consuel’s future husband, Alton Murray. She always talked about
the first time she saw her beloved, descending gracefully down the stairs
to greet her. It was love at first sight.
They married in England where they enjoyed each other’s company
traveling throughout Europe and eventually living in Central America where
her husband worked with The World Health Organization. They then
returned to Jamaica where they raised their four daughters.
Her strength and determination was again seen when she surprised her
doctors by living much longer on Hospice Care while suffering from
cardiac heart failure and breast cancer. She enjoyed gardening. As a real
gardener, she did most of her own landscaping by herself. She influenced
all around her with her love for the outdoors and nature. Consuel was
fearless, never shy to speak her mind and saying honestly what she
thought of a situation.
Her faith as a devoted Jehovah’s Witness was inspirational. Faith gave her
the strength she needed to accept what was happening to her in the last
days of her life. She held on to the teachings of the Resurrection, where
she will reunite with her late husband Alton and second daughter Anthea.
Consuel Murray was a strong and beautiful woman. She is survived by
three of her daughters Connie, Shari and Ann and her granddaughters
Kelsey and Kaitlin.
Consuel will be remembered forever in our hearts.
