

Cynthia Chapman Hancock, 78, of Fort Lauderdale passed away peacefully on November 25, 2015. Cyndi was a wife, mother, visionary, educator, moviegoer, lover of the ocean and of American Indian decent. After graduating from Stetson University in 1963, her vast career included; English teacher, journalism teacher, Public Relations Director for Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, and City of Hollywood. In 1982, Cynthia co-founded National Week of the Ocean, a non-profit dedicated to educating and preserving the ocean. She held the cause close to her heart, as this marked its 33th year. Her achievements included; Woman of Vision award, National Marine Educators Association, James Centerino award, Juliette Ward Lowe Society, Beta Sigma Phi sister, Woman in Communication member, and Entre Nous.
Cynthia will be dearly missed by her husband of 46 years, Dane, daughter Cherie Mc Guffie, son Scott Hancock, daughter-in-law Kristeen Hancock, and grandson Shane Hancock.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2015, from 2-4 pm with a Celebration of Life at 3 pm at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 S Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale 33316.
