Debra was born on October 20, 1954, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to Richard and Shirley Leist. She married Michael Sweeten on June 2, 1978, in Manitowoc. Debra worked as a Medical Coder for Memorial Healthcare System and dedicated her life to her children. She was actively involved in their lives, volunteering at school functions and serving as both a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader.
A lifelong animal lover, Debra had a deep compassion for animals—rescuing many throughout her life and supporting numerous animal-related charities.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Shirley Leist; her brother, Scott Leist; and her husband, Michael Sweeten.
Debra is survived by her children, Victoria and Matthew; her siblings, Marilyn, Barbara, Susan, Candace, Cynthia, and Terrence; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any animal-related charity in Debra’s honor.
