

Don was born in Davenport, IA on December 21, 1941 to the late Wendell and Marian (Garner) McNeil.
Don moved to South Florida as a young boy where he attended Allapattah High School and the University of Miami. He was an avid UM Hurricanes & Miami Dolphins fan. Don never missed a football game. If he wasn’t at the stadium he could be found in front of the TV set during any UM game.
Don worked for Architectural Glass and Aluminum for over 20 years where he was the Project Manager. He traveled throughout Florida and the Bahamas installing numerous windows, storefronts and glass ceilings in buildings and skyscrapers.
Don married the love of his life and best friend, Kathleen, of Davie, Florida. Don and Kathleen had an adoring marriage for 37 years finding complete happiness and spending nearly every day with each other.
Don was a true family man and a dedicated Pop Pop who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Taylor Briesemeister, Jace Willoughby, and Shane Willoughby. Don’s grandchildren were the “Light of his Life.” He enjoyed many softball games, theater plays, cheerleading, movies, football games, karate tournaments, school lunches, school concerts, being the Grandpa Carpool, and the list goes on and on.
Don had a captivating personality with a great sense of humor. He was likeable and personable with the ability to have a gainful conversation with anyone at any time.
Don will always be remembered for his intelligence and knowledge. He loved reading and was quite the historian. One could ask Don any question about any topic and receive a complete and thorough answer.
Don also enjoyed traveling throughout the US with his wife Kathleen to visit historical sites and experience many unique and famous restaurants. Don’s favorite restaurant is the famous Hyman’s Seafood Restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina.
In addition to his wife and grandchildren, Don will be sorely missed by his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Haydee Maria Willoughby, his sister Patricia (McNeil) Atkins, and his brother Barry McNeil.
The family will be receiving family and friends on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, 10 am to 12 noon at Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL. 33024. Funeral services will follow and then burial will take place at Hollywood Memorial Gardens West.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Donald Lee McNeil to the American Heart Association.
