On April 17, 2014 after being a widow of 19 years, our mom Donna Mae Schoon DeSha could finally rest in peace. She was a woman who filled many positions in life, each to her best ability. She was the wife of a military career man; Carl Edward DeSha Sr.
A caring and respectful daughter, who with her husband took care of her mom for several years until her mom's last breathe on earth.
Devoted wife who said after our father passed on July 26, 1994, "There will be no other man for me, for when you have had the best, nothing else will do."
A military wife who not only took care of our family when our dad was out to sea but, made time to be the ombudsman to the military families aboard our father's ships. The ombudsman was the liaison between the families; especially the young Navy wives whose husbands were deployed for the first time.
An exceptional Mother, who made us learn and do all kinds of awful things. When we were growing up we thought we had the meanest mother in the world. Think of it. She made us keep our rooms clean; learn to do our own laundry; wash the dishes; she even made her only son learn to Iron his own clothes.
A licensed hair dresser who took care of her son's and daughters' hair when they were growing up, always ensuring we were presentable to the public. Our oldest sister, Carlene followed in her footsteps, while her son Carl and the youngest of the family Suzzanne followed in our father's footsteps with a career in the Navy.
Mom was a school bus driver for the Anaheim Union School District and later became an administrative assistant to a school district maintenance manager. Because she worked for the school district her children could never skip nor play hooky from school, we were robbed!
A fabulous Mother In-law to both her daughter in-law Sandra Y DeSha and son-in-law Allan Ginsberg; after Sandra's mom passed away, our mom became the stand in mom. Sandra so enjoyed her company. For those that believe in the hereafter she and Sandra's spirits are once again united as well all the loved ones who have gone before her.
An exceptional Grandmother and Great Grandmother who garnered the respect, love and admiration of her grandchildren Vanessa Yolanda and Jeremy Edward; and her great grandchildren Gloria Yolanda, and Jacob Edward. For Jeremy's high school graduation gift she took him to the Island of Kauai in Hawaii for week of fun filled adventure. For Vanessa's high school graduation gift she took her to Europe for a little over a week. They enjoyed the sights and sounds of London, Paris and Scotland.
A loving sister to Linda Gillis, who is currently residing in White Hall, Illinois with her husband Fred Gillis. Though they were miles apart they would communicate with each other via phone. Linda and her husband Fred had the opportunity to see her sister on her 80th birthday. They enjoyed their time together.
She loved and enjoyed each moment as an aunt through the years with her nieces and nephews on both her and our dad's side of the family.
A true friend who would give what she could to help. Whether it was chauffeuring the "girls" to the luncheon, stage show, or the store, she enjoyed giving. We don't know of any person that met our mom who didn't instantly become very fond of her.
So............... Mom, now it is our time to live without you, but what you have taught us and the memories you have given us will carry us through to the end of our life on this earth.
We love and miss you. You will always hold an extremely special place in our hearts in loving memory of you. You have made us who we are and for that we are grateful. Carlene, Carl, and Suzzanne.
Please note: If you would like to do something in memory of our mom, in lieu of flowers you may give a donation to the Arthritis foundation. www.arthritis.org.
