Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 13, 1912 to Julius Anton Frech and his wife Margaret Barbara Emmerich. Died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 7:12am in Pembroke Pines, FL. Raised on Kensington Ave in Philadelphia through the mid-nineteen twenties at which time the family moved to Pleasantville, NJ just outside of Atlantic City, NJ. Dorothy attended school in Pleasantville where she took up sports, art and drama along with her business studies. She was an outstanding athlete and artist. Later Dorothy studied for several years at the Moore Institute, which became known as the Philadelphia School of Design. She collaborated with the Savell Studio in Pleasantville in creating many of the centennials place mat designs then popular in most Atlantic City Restaurants and hotels in the late 1940s and earlier 1950s. Dorothy loved art, dance and ice-skating and was quite accomplished. All her life, Dorothy enjoyed art and sports, she had excellent balance. She was asked to be a part of the Icecapades and was at one time asked to be permitted to travel abroad to study art in Europe; her father denied both opportunities. She was an avid golfer all of her adult life belonging to the Atlantic City Golf Club and played in many tournaments. She continued her play in Florida. During the Second World War Dot worked as a Red Cross Gray Lady at the England General Hospital in Atlantic City, NJ helping servicemen returning from the war. In December 1941, Dot married her longtime sweetheart Basil J. Corkhill but was later divorced in 1944. Dorothy had a varied and long life of 97 years. While living in the Northeast she worked as a secretary for a doctor; upon relocating to Hollywood, FL with her family in 1954, she worked for the Hollywood Parks Department of Recreation in arts and crafts; then as a school secretary and teachers assistant at Colbert Elementary and Sheridan Hills Elementary. In NJ she and her family were active and regularly attended the beautiful Pleasantville Baptist Church, which she sketched as a native of Pleasantville in 1954; she then accompanied her parents to Hollywood, FL where they became members of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Dorothy spent much of her later life caring for her elderly parents; service to her church in choir and women of the ELCA and volunteering within the Broward School System at Sheridan Hills Elementary. Dot continued her athletic prowells in dance, golf and bowling well into her late eighties and she enjoyed the company of friends both human and animal all of her life. She was a party girl.
