Dr. Paul Harvey Braxton III

Dr. Paul H. Braxton, affectionately known by his family as Paulie, at 74, died in his home in Hollywood, Florida, on Sunday, May 21, 2023. He died surrounded by family and friends after his long battle with sickle cell anemia. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, on December 30, 1948 and is the first-born son of Paul H. Braxton Jr. and Jeanette.

Paul graduated from Essex Catholic High School in New Jersey, followed by Central State University, Class of 1971. At this HBCU, he joined the "Grand and Glorious" Eta Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Paul completed a master's degree and Ph.D. from Barry University in 2016. He worked excellently as a public-school teacher in Newark, New Jersey, and Miami Dade County, Florida, for over 30 years.

Paul married the love of his life, Roberta Genetta Braxton, on November 6, 1998, and they celebrated 24 years of marriage. Paul was a man of God committed to serving as a Godly spouse, father, sibling, friend, and to all he encountered. Paul was a man of faith and an active member of The Bridge Church in Miramar, Florida, where he served in the technology ministry and sometimes facilitated a morning bible study class. Paul lived with sickle cell anemia and learned all about the disease. He would participate in boards and committees to share this knowledge on professional panels and with anyone who would listen.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Nancy. Dr. Braxton is survived by his wife, Roberta Genetta Braxton, his daughters; Dana S. Braxton, Roberta J. Braxton and Paulina G. Braxton; three brothers, Donald Braxton, Christopher Braxton, and Coy Braxton; and a host of aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and colleagues on June 2, 5 – 8 pm at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft St Hollywood, Fl. A service in celebration and remembrance of his life and legacy will be held at The Bridge Church on June 3, 2023, at 11:00 am, location 9300 Pembroke Rd. Miramar, FL 33025. Interment will be at Fred Hunters cemetery location 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida 33023. Repast at The Bridge Church.
