

Dulce Ione Martin-Thompson, 88, who was affectionately known to everyone in the family as "mama" died peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Aventura Medical Center. She was surrounded by her family when she departed.
Dulce was born in Guys Hill St. Catherine Jamaica on May 1, 1928 to Doris McDowell and Stephen Martin. She bore nine children. Her eldest daughter Elfreda Hunter-Bryce predeceased her in 1988 and her grand-daughter Stephanie Sofronsky predeceased her in 2013.
In her early years she worked as a craft worker and as a homemaker. She made straw hats, bags, doilies and other crafts where she sold her beautifully crafted wares to the vendors at the Craft market in Kingston. She was very talented.
After moving to Boscobel, St. Mary, she worked at the Playboy Club Hotel as a laundress. In December 1978, she migrated to the united states where she worked in several hotels as a housekeeper. She was hard working and very dedicated to her job.
Dulce was married to Harold Thompson in 1997 who predeceased her in 2004. Dulce and Harold had a warm, loving, and caring marriage. They were inseparable. Within this marriage she gained two children, Bobsie and June Thompson whom she loved dearly.
Dulcie loved the Lord and spent a lot of time reading her bible. She loved listening to christian music. Her favorite singer was Jimmy Swaggert. She listened to his music everyday.
Dulce enjoyed cooking and was passionate about gardening. She always kept a beautifully grown garden filled with a variety of flowers for a large number of years until she was physically unable to do so. She was generous, giving, and a loving person. Many people have called upon her for help and assistance. She never turned anyone away. She also spent many years taking care of her grand-children, nieces and nephews.
Dulce is survived by her eight children: Fitz, Faith, Sonia, Sharon, Octavia, Martha, Whittingham and Henriko; Three sisters: Winnifred, Carmen and Gloria; twenty-seven grand-children; twenty-eight great grand-children; and three great, great grand-.children.
Dulce will truly be missed by all her family and friends. Rest in peace "Mama".
