

Elizabeth Ann Mountcastle, age 76, passed away on December 31st, just before midnight, after a courageous battle with cancer. She died at home with her two loving daughters at her side. Elizabeth, known to many as “Betsy”, was the oldest of three and was born in 1945 in Washington D.C. to Dorthea Irene Gibbs and Nola Weakley. She graduated from Central High School in Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Soon after she got married to her first husband, Lawrence Mountcastle and in 1967, had her first child, her daughter, Shari. They moved to Florida in the late 1960’s which she described as a paradise, where you could pull up your car right on the sand of Ft. Lauderdale beach with barely a soul around. She remembers when there was nothing but Everglades west of University Drive. She made this her home and lived here ever since. In 1971 she had her second daughter, Stacy.
Elizabeth was a very independent and intelligent woman. She put herself through college, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1992 from Nova Southeastern University all while raising her two daughters. She had a very rewarding career in human resources and retired in 2012 as director of human resources for a successful healthcare company. She enjoyed her career very much and the friends she made while working. Later in life she remarried, to Wayne Thrasher, the man she called “the love of my life”.
Elizabeth enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have seen many beautiful sights in the US and abroad. She put together elaborate photo albums of the wonderful places she visited. She loved to laugh and enjoyed shopping with her two daughters. She loved clothes and had a sense of fashion that added to her beauty. Elizabeth was a music lover, she has fond memories of her mother playing piano and enjoyed going to concerts. She was an avid reader, collected classics and spent many hours reading on her kindle. She enjoyed spending time with her family on the weekends. She was very involved with her grandchildren, loved going to school events, hosting birthday parties and sleepovers. “Nana” as she was called by her three grandchildren, supported their artistic endeavors. When they wanted to go to drama camp, she didn’t miss a show. She loved that they had an interest in the arts. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind her brother, John Weakley, her sister Nolamary Lamonica, and her two daughters Shari Thrasher and Stacy Corzo along with their husbands, James Thrasher and Alex Corzo, as well as three grandchildren Jadelynn Corzo, Sienna Corzo and Jack Thrasher. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Thrasher, her father Nola Weakley and her mother Dorthea Ann Weakley. She was a very loving mother, admired by friends and family and a successful career woman, she will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
