Elizabeth Burch Welch

Welch, Elizabeth (Betty) Burch passed away on April 19, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Evin R. Welch and her two brothers, David Burch and Bill Burch. Elizabeth was born on October 10, 1926 to Dr. Ray Wilson Burch and Mary Niehardt Burch, a pioneer family of Fort Lauderdale. She attended Fort Lauderdale High School and Florida State University. She was a life long member of First Presbyterian Church and was active in many organizations such as Beaux Art, PEO, and the Rotary Club at John Knox Village. Betty will be remembered for her irrepressible spirit. She was a competitive athlete who enjoyed sailing and tennis with friends at the Lauderdale Yacht Club and golf with the ladies at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club. She was an outdoor adventurer, traveling around the world making videos of the scenery and wildlife that she shared with family and friends. Betty is survived by her daughter Kathryn (David) Whiteman, son James (Eleanor) Welch and five grandchildren, Betsy Whiteman, Holly Whiteman, Katie Welch, Matthew Welch and David Welch. A celebration of her life will be held at John Knox Village, Tuesday April 24, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel/Auditorium, 200 Lakeside Circle, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale or The John Knox Village Foundation.
