Emilio “Chulo” Fertil, 85, of Miami, Florida, passed away on October 21, 2024, at Jackson North Medical Center. Born on May 1, 1939, in the 4ème section of La Croix Saint Joseph, Haiti, Emilio was the cherished son of Fertilien Fertil and Madelaine Lebrun. Known for his charm and impeccable style, Emilio was affectionately nicknamed “Chulo” for his warm personality and distinctive presence.
Emilio’s life was rooted in hard work, family, and a deep love for nature. He began his career as a landscaper, where he shared his passion for cultivating the earth. In search of better opportunities, Emilio migrated to the Bahamas, where he worked on a cruise ship. During this time, he met his beloved wife, Solange Ducatel Fertil. They married and later moved to the United States, building a life together grounded in faith, resilience, and devotion to family. Emilio and Solange shared 40 years of marriage until her passing in 2011, and he now joins her in eternal peace.
A proud father, Emilio is survived by his children: Beliard Fertil (and his children, Cyenne A. Fertil and Dinarri B. Fertil); Stephanie Laster (and her son, Cameron Laster); Bready Fertil (and his children: Britney [Chris] Crawford and their daughter, Harper Crawford; King Isaiah Dorvil and his daughter, Amaya Rene Dorvil; and Sierra Fertil); Betty Fertil; Barbara (Gerald) Etienne; Marceline Mesidor (and her children, Perry and Annabelle Accius); Alex (Sheila) Ducatel (and their children: Daphney, Brendan, Rhendell, Emmauella, and Jeremiah Ducatel); and Guerda (Jovans) Belizaire (and their children: Dimitrius, Khalil, and Isabelle Belizaire). His legacy includes 14 cherished grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.
Emilio was one of thirteen siblings, including Degue Corneille, Licres Corneille, Mrs. Ramoun, Mrs. Michel Saint Preux, and Mrs. Dezaelle Pierre. He is survived by his beloved brother, Joseph Fertil.
Emilio will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. His memory will remain a source of love, strength, and inspiration to all.
