Ernesta Squeo

Ernesta was born in Carpino, Italy to Cosimo and Isabella Valentino on March 9, 1934.  She lived in Carpino until the age of 38 working at the family-owned retail store while also in those later years in Italy taking care of her mother and her oldest sister Vincenza who was confined in a wheelchair.  She married Antonio Squeo on April 9,1972 in Hoboken, NJ. Shortly after getting married, Ernesta, her husband, and her husband’s two children Serafina and Angelo Squeo moved to Hollywood, FL.  Soon after she gave birth to her only child, Antonio J. Squeo.  At that point she was an incredible mother to her son and a devoted housewife to her husband and did all that she could for the rest of her family.  She was an unbelievable cook who made the best Italian sauce and meatballs, eggplant parmigiana, homemade pizza, cakes and other Italian dishes and desserts.  But mostly Ernesta was a very social person who was so sweet and kind to everyone she met.  She loved talking to everyone she met and took a sincere interest in getting to know them.  She loved nothing more than to sit with family or friends over some coffee and cake.

Ernesta is preceded in death by her husband Antonio Squeo, her parents Cosimo Valentino and Isabella Di Fiore, her brothers Dante, Ernesto, Gino, Mario, Pasquale, and Roberto Valentino, her sisters Vincenza Valentino and Gina Valentino Petracca, her daughter Serafina Looker, and grandson Joseph Damato. 

Ernesta is survived by her sons Antonio J. Squeo and Angelo Squeo, grandchildren Antonio D. Squeo and Francine Damato, great grandchildren Jazmyn and Lynzie Bonilla and Raquel, Mason, and Giannah Damato, and nieces and nephews Caterina Petracca Montemitro, Mino Valentino, Cosimo Valentino, Isabella Valentino Rocha, and Elisabetta Valentino.

Following the viewing, A funeral mass will be held for Ernesta Squeo at 12 Noon at Nativity Catholic Church at 5220 Johnson Street, Hollywood, FL 33021. The funeral mass will also be livestreamed to access livestream please visit https://nativityhollywood.org/live/. Burial will follow at the Fred Hunter Cemetery.

The family of Ernesta Squeo wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our extended family here in the U.S., in Italy, and elsewhere; to all Ernesta’s friends and friends of the family; and to all Ernesta’s caretakers over the years including everyone at The Colony Club assisted living facility in Sunrise, FL. Ernesta Francesca Valentino Squeo, 86 anni, di Hollywood, FL, è morta il 20 gennaio 2021 a Plantation, FL.

Ernesta è nata a Carpino, Italia da Cosimo e Isabella Valentino il 9 marzo 1934. Ha vissuto a Carpino fino all'età di 38 anni lavorando presso il negozio al dettaglio di famiglia, mentre negli ultimi anni in Italia si è presa cura di sua madre e di lei. la sorella maggiore Vincenza, rinchiusa su una sedia a rotelle. Ha sposato Antonio Squeo il 9 aprile 1972 a Hoboken, NJ. Poco dopo essersi sposati, Ernesta, suo marito e i due figli di suo marito, Serafina e Angelo Squeo, si sono trasferiti a Hollywood, FL. Subito dopo ha dato alla luce il suo unico figlio, Antonio J. Squeo. A quel punto era una madre incredibile per suo figlio e una casalinga devota per suo marito e ha fatto tutto il possibile per il resto della sua famiglia. Era una cuoca incredibile che preparava la migliore salsa e polpette italiane, parmigiana di melanzane, pizza fatta in casa, torte e altri piatti e dessert italiani. Ma soprattutto Ernesta era una persona molto socievole, così dolce e gentile con tutti quelli che incontrava. Amava parlare con tutti quelli che incontrava e si interessava sinceramente a conoscerli. Non amava nient'altro che sedersi con la famiglia o gli amici davanti a un caffè e una torta.

Ernesta è preceduta nella morte dal marito Antonio Squeo, dai genitori Cosimo Valentino e Isabella Di Fiore, dai fratelli Dante, Ernesto, Gino, Mario, Pasquale e Roberto Valentino, dalle sorelle Vincenza Valentino e Gina Valentino Petracca, dalla figlia Serafina Looker, e nipote Giuseppe Damato.

Ernesta lascia i suoi figli Antonio J. Squeo e Angelo Squeo, i nipoti Antonio D.Squeo e Francine Damato, i pronipoti Jazmyn e Lynzie Bonilla e Raquel, Mason e Giannah Damato, e le nipoti Caterina Petracca Montemitro, Mino Valentino, Cosimo Valentino, Isabella Valentino Rocha e Elisabetta Valentino.
