Our beloved Evelyn Therese was born on October 23, 1939 in Gonaives, Haiti to parents Emmanuel Isaac and Anna Marie Noel. Evelyn had four siblings: brothers, Fritz (deceased 2016), Gregoire Emmanuel, Serge, and sister, Raymonde. Evelyn and her sibings were raised in Marmelade, Haiti. In 1950 the Noel family moved to Port-au-Prince for better opportunities.
In her early years Evelyn attended The Sisters of Wisdom; she went on to study Pedagogy and graduated from Elie Dubois, an academic and finishing school. After graduating she began teaching and she later received a scholarship to study domestic economy in France. While in France she reunited with her soon-to-be husband, Enose Jean-Louis. They married in 1960 and to this union four children were born: Nadia, Fernand, Pascale and Phillipe. Shortly after Nadia, her first child, was born, Evelyn and Enose moved to Africa to begin working as French teachers in the Belgium Congo. Evelyn had an adventurous spirit and she loved to travel. During her eight years in Africa she traveled the world. This partly explains why each of her children were born in a different country.
In 1973 Evelyn and Enose purchased a home in Queens, New York, and by 1975 all four of their children were united under one roof. At that time Evelyn began her career as a typist for Manufacturer Hanover Trust Bank. She worked there until her husband's death in 1986, at which time she retired.
Once retired, Evelyn became very active in various social and religious groups. She was a member of Casegha- a group formed by former scouts of Haiti. She was also a member of Phoenix. Evelyn was very religious and enjoyed socializing and attending fundraising functions of her various organizations. Evelyn was a giver by nature and generously supported many organizations through monetary donations, including the Silverman Orphanage and the Friends of Montfort - an organization that helps the mute and deaf in Haiti. She was also a member of the Legionnaires (Legion of Mary), who are the devotees of Mary that visit with the sick.
In 1987, Evelyn re-married a longtime friend and colleague, Jean Hermantin. She worked with assisting him in the delivery of court summons until they relocated to Plantation, Florida in 2005. There they enjoyed their retirement life together.
In 2006 Evelyn was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow. Through her faith, diet, nutrition and treatments, she survived the disease for 11years; which is double the average survival rate. Evelyn had a strong conviction that Jesus strengthened her and kept up her spirits during her decade long battle with the disease.
Evelyn was a dedicated wife, caring mother and loving grandmother. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Jean; children, Nadia, Fernand (Marly), Pascale (Richard), Phillipe (Dionne); stepson, Gregory; six grandchildren: Mia, Marcel, Jasmin, Justin, Zachary and Zenobia; two brothers: Gregoire Emmanuel (Marie-Angelica) and Serge; sister, Raymonde (Jean), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
