Flora Jennings

Flora was born in Arouca, Trinidad & Tobago to Doris Charles on September 4, 1923.  She was the eldest of 12 children, attended school in Arouca and lived the majority of life there amongst her family.  She married Carlton Jennings from Arima, Trinidad & Tobago, at the age of 18.  Flora had six children, Junior, Nick, Joeann, Dianne, Suzanne and Joel.  Flora was a seamstress by trade making everything from day-to-day clothes, uniforms to wedding dresses.  She was a very giving person, and at times would freely provide garments to those who couldn’t afford to pay for her services.  In April 1981, she and her three youngest children relocated to Queens, New York, to be with her eldest daughter and family.  During her time in New York, she worked as a CNA.  Flora was the kind, caring person that provided care for her clients with the utmost dignity and love.  In May of 1994, Flora moved to Pembroke Pines, Florida where she resided the rest of her life among family.  Flora was an avid cook and used fresh ingredients to cook all meals from scratch.  This is what aided in her longevity as she was not one to eat fast food and she believed in feeding everyone when they visited.  A Christmas didn’t pass without Flora making her homemade bread loafs.  She enjoyed gardening and would plant her own seasoning and other flowers and plants around the house. She loved seeing her family grow and interacting with her grandchildren.  She was a praying woman and believed in lifting you up in prayers daily.  She would pray through her rosary daily; as it was her ritual every morning.  Flora also had a feisty, quick wit about her which would keep everyone laughing and always with a smile on their face.  She will truly be missed and is loved dearly.

Flora is preceded in death by her former husband, Carlton; her two eldest children, Junior and Nick; eight siblings and one granddaughter, Lisa.

Flora is survived by her children: Joeann, Dianne, Suzanne, and Joel. Son-in-law: Bill. Sisters: Minerva, Cynthia, and Joan. Grandchildren: Rodney, Carla, Richard, Brent, Marlon, Candice, Anthony, Roger, Roxanne, Toni and Nicholas. Great-grandchildren: Tevin, Nicholas, Afisha, Cookies, Sebastian, Hailey, Marcus, Samara, Tiyana, Camron, Tiyon, Trilise, Malik, Akil, Chad Chase and six more blessings.  Also 18 great-great grandchildren.

Viewing will be at 11:00am, Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, Hollywood, FL.

Funeral services will be held 11:30am, Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home with the Pedro Martinez officiating.   Burial will follow at Fred Hunter.  Arrangements are by Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home.
