Fred J. Schmidt, 82, of Sunrise, Florida passed away May 14, 2017, after a long illness. He was born June 9, 1934, in Menasha, Wisconsin, the son of George and Catherine (Pawlowski) Schmidt. Fred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Fred moved to Broward County, Florida over 40 years ago. He was the Physical Education Teacher at Broadview Elementary School in North Lauderdale for over 30 years. Fred was instrumental in starting the first Elementary Olympics in Broward County.
Survivors include his wife of over 40 years, Linda; son, Fred; daughter, Mary Ann; granddaughter, Alexis; brother, Jerome Schmidt (Laura); sister-in-law, Barbara Totten (Doug); nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
