Gene Howell was born on April 5, 1936 and went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, and six children, Brett, Bruce, Wendy, Brody, Justin and Reese, and his nine grandchildren.
Gene was born in Fort Lauderdale at Broward General Hospital, attended Fort Lauderdale High School, then the University of Miami where he graduated from the Air Force ROTC with honors. He served in the Air Force as a flight instructor, and then was hired by National Airlines in 1964. After a merger, Gene flew for Pan Am until he retired in 1991.
Gene's passion was flying, and he was always excited to converse with anyone with an interest in aviation. He was charming, handsome, witty, and fun-loving, and everyone who knew him could instantly recognize those qualities. Gene will be greatly missed by many and especially his family, his greatest joy.
A Celebration of Life for Gene will be held on July 31 at 4pm at First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, 301 East Broward Blvd; Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301.
