George E. Corey, 78, of Cooper City, Florida, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in Cooper City, Florida.
George was born in Brooklyn, NY to George Zamelkani and Lorice Zakaib on March 29, 1948. As the oldest of three boys, George embraced his Lebanese heritage and learned to play the Oud (a guitar like instrument with 13 strings). Along with his brother Bobby on vocals and violin, and his youngest brother Richard on the middle eastern drum the, Derbecki, they formed the Corey Brothers and went on to become very well-known in the world of Middle Eastern music. They eventually moved to South Florida from Brooklyn where George remained for the rest of his life. Even up until just a few years ago, George and his brother, Richard would perform for special occasions together…For over 50 years they were entertaining audiences, young and old alike.
George worked as a Real Estate Broker for almost the last 50 years throughout Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties and has established himself as one of the premier leaders in the industry. George has mentored many in his time in the business and has always been viewed as someone who would help in any way he could. Known as the “Godfather of Real Estate” by his peers and friends alike, George was old-school in his approach. He preached hard work but showed how to get the most of your efforts. His understanding of the “negotiation process” and the ability to teach that to others was one of his biggest highlights…people loved to hear his stories, as he related to whatever the situation was. He also honestly cared…
George is survived by his son George Corey Jr., daughter-in-law Michelle Corey, Grandson Alec Corey, daughter Christa Rainone, son-in-law Paul Rainone, Granddaughter Rylee Rainone and Grandson Daniel Rainone, his brother Richard Corey, sister-in-law Dr. May Corey, nephews Richard Corey Jr. and Jarred Corey and nieces Hiba, Fida, Maya and their families.
