George Stephan Davitian, 93, of Parkland, Florida, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Margate, Florida.
Born in Urmia, Iran, on May 5, 1933, George was the son of Samuel and Anastasia Davitian. He attended school in Urmia and later graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. On February 13, 1977, he married Naomi Aharonian at St. John the Baptist Armenian Church in Miami, Florida.
George began his career as a pattern maker in New York. After moving to Florida, he expanded his business to encompass every stage of garment production, from purchasing yarn and manufacturing and dyeing fabric to designing, cutting, sewing, printing, packaging, and shipping finished garments to department stores, specialty stores, and luxury brands. Through his vision and hard work, he built a vertically integrated garment-manufacturing operation with factories and warehouses in several countries and a Miami factory spanning two city blocks.
George was deeply devoted to his faith, his Armenian heritage, and his church community. He was involved in the Knights of Vartan, served on the Parish Council of St. John the Baptist Armenian Church in Miami, and gave his time to numerous church committees throughout his life. As Building Committee Chairman and one of the godfathers and benefactors of St. Mary Armenian Church in Cooper City, Florida, he played an instrumental role in its construction, generously contributing both his time and financial support. He also helped fund the construction of the adjacent Davitian Hall, which bears his and his wife Naomi’s name. A recipient of the St. Nersess Shnorhali Medal, George leaves a lasting legacy of faith, generosity, and service.
Above all, George considered his family his greatest achievement. Beyond his success in business and his contributions to the community, he treasured his role as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Anastasia; his brothers, Norayr and Sahak; and his sister, Lousik.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Naomi; his sons, Noreek and his wife, Veronica, and Sevan; his sisters, Sarik and Kenar; his grandchildren, Alexis and her husband, Maroun, Aren, Alina, Caden, Brandon, Devin, and Vittoria; and his great-grandchildren, Charbel, Giovan, and Levon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at St. Mary Armenian Church, 4050 NW 100th Avenue, Hollywood (Cooper City), Florida 33024, with Father Vartan Joulfayan officiating. Burial will follow at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery located at 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, FL 33024. Following the burial, a Memorial Meal and Celebration of George’s life will be held at Davitian Hall, adjacent to the church.
George’s family extends its heartfelt gratitude to his doctors and nurses at Cleveland Clinic and to his church family at St. Mary for their care, kindness, and support.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s memory to St. Mary Armenian Church.
