

George Henry Hohmann, Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri to parents, George H. Hohmann, Sr. and Lydia C. Hohmann on August 12, 1935. George attended University City Schools and graduated from Washington University School of Architecture in 1958. After a brief internship in a local architectural office he entered the US Navy where he served for three years as a Navy Lieutenant and was the Resident Officer in Charge of Construction at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Kingsville, TX. George married Susan K. Gruetzemacher in 1960 and they lived in Kingsville, while he was stationed at the Naval Air Base. In 1962 they moved back to St. Louis and George resumed his lifetime career in architecture. His daughter, Kim was born in 1966 and son, Paul was born in 1970. George worked for a variety of architectural firms in St. Louis including Peckahm Guyton Architects, The Drake Partnership, Sverdrup and Parcel, HBE and even had his own private practice from 1965-1970. It was during this time that his passion for institutional design, specifically in Healthcare and University design grew. In 1978 he and Susan divorced and George moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and continued his career there. He married A. Bradford “Brad” and adored his bonus daughter Kathryn A. Vicker. George worked full time as a successful architect until he was 80 years old for firms including The Smith Korach Hayet Haynie Partnership from 1980-1985; Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan; Mark Saltz Architects; Scharf & Associates; C3TS and ACAI Associates. Buildings and design were his true passion Upon the passing of his wife, Brad, in 2015, and his retirement from his last workplace, George dedicated many years to caring for his two Golden Retrievers until they passed. In January 2020 Kathryn and her two daughters returned to her childhood home to allow George to age comfortably until he died on December 17, 2022. George will be buried with his parents at Lake Charles Cemetery in St. Louis in a private ceremony at a later date. He is survived by his children, Kimberly C. Good (Rob), and Paul G. Hohmann (Nancy) and Kathryn A. Vicker, granddaughters Lyla and Ella, his sister Joan Prastka (Bill), nephews Steve and Kurt Prastka (Sumer) and two great nieces. Donations may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
