

Jack was born in Gentryville, Indiana on December 18, 1919. He moved to Florida in 1948, and taught school for more than 35 years. For most of those years, Jack was a science teacher at Olsen Middle School. He held a Master's Degree in Education from Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, North Carolina.
Jack was a founding member and long-time board member of the Broward County Teachers Credit Union (now BrightStar Credit Union).
His loving family and many friends will fondly remember Jack for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, June; sister Willa Parshall of Santa Fe, NM; son William (Janie Lee) of Columbus, GA; daughters Janet Aroyo of Boca Raton and JeanAnn Scharr (Paul) of Cooper City; stepsons Kyle Pierce of Shreveport, LA and Russell Pierce of Hollywood; and stepdaughter Patricia Pierce of St. Petersburg.
Jack is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by former wife, Waneta; and sister Ruth Gentry Boring.
A memorial will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, January 8, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broward Education Foundation, 600 SE Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, or www.browardedfoundation.org
