Henry Alvarez

Born on July 8, 1976, Henry lived a life defined by curiosity, independence, ambition, and a wide range of interests. He pursued higher education in information technology and business management and became a licensed private pilot. His professional life reflected the same versatility that characterized him personally. Henry was an entrepreneur in Fort Lauderdale’s nightclub industry, served as a director with Son of Sandlar, worked as a flight instructor, and contributed as a project analyst supporting Hurricane Ike recovery efforts in Houston.

Henry was the kind of person who was rarely limited to one passion. He loved cars, cooking, travel, fishing, photography, movies, music, video games, technology, and discovering great food. He had a gift for finding memorable restaurants and was known among those close to him as someone who knew where the good spots were. Road trips were another favorite pursuit, and Henry developed a reputation as something of a road-trip expert.

His interests also reflected an adventurous and inquisitive spirit. Henry enjoyed chasing sunrises, attending festivals, collecting gadgets, shoes, knives, movies, and music, and exploring new experiences. His musical tastes were diverse, and his appreciation for technology and problem-solving remained part of who he was throughout his life.

More important than his many interests was the role Henry played in the lives of others. He was regarded as a true and genuine friend, a compassionate advisor, a practiced debater, and someone others turned to when they needed help solving a problem. He had also become the dependable “best man” at more than one wedding, a reflection of the friendships and trust he built throughout his life.

Henry is survived by his daughter, Alicia Acosta; his life partner, Jaclyn Anita Kienzle; his mother, Cecilia Alvarez; his father, Luis Horacio Alvarez; and his brother, Joshua Karp.

Henry’s life brought together adventure, intellect, entrepreneurship, friendship, and an endless desire to experience what the world had to offer. Those who knew him will remember not only the many things that captured his interest, but the conversations, advice, experiences, and memories they shared with him.
