Irma Carmen Teixeira was born in Trinidad and Tobago on 1st January 1935, the third child of Glenevia Butler (dec.) and S.M. Butler (dec.). She was the loving wife of Carl Teixeira (dec.) and adoring mother of Kent Butler and Dianne Teixeira, the beloved sister of Veronica “Baby” Butler (dec.), Una Butler (dec.), Kelvin Butler (dec.) and Stormie (dec.) and darling niece of Rosie.
Whilst in Trinidad, she worked at the San Fernando General Hospital as a seamstress then migrated to New York in 1968 and worked at Citibank. The family then moved to Florida in 1990 where she worked as a Nurse’s Aid.
She had an eye for the finer things in life and through her sound values, she worked hard to obtain her finer possessions – this is reflected in her beautiful home and her elegantly put together dress sense.
She loved the sound of laughter and faces of happiness so she entertained her friends and family as much as possible, where she always offered up some delicious food- The works!
Her favorites were saltfish, cassava, oil down and not forgetting Sheffield!
To everyone that knew her, knew that she possessed a fiery and charismatic spirit and because of this she was never afraid to give you a piece of her mind. She did this out of love for everyone, we knew she meant well and by the following day everything was back to normal.
Her heart was full of love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cared, loved, guided and protected them unconditionally.
She possessed a maternal love for ALL of her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and, grandnephews and spoke to them daily– these conversations were the highlight of her day!
“Mommy and Moms” is what she was lovingly and respectfully called by all of her children’s friends. They will all have cherished memories of her being the queen of the dance floor and asking them to “bring a drink for her”.
She shared a special motherly love for Cherry-Ann Pearce, she loved and adopted her as a daughter.
She unequivocally showed us the meaning of unconditional love and we will never forget one of her famous sayings “Don’t go out there if you doh look good eh!”
You will live on through us all.
Thank you for raising us in love, kindness and happiness – we are eternally grateful!
Rest in eternal peace sweet Mommy!
It will be hard living without you but as a family we will pull together and get through these hard times.
