

Irwin Louis Oster, 97 years of age, of Hollywood, Florida, passed away on October 29, 2020 in Hollywood, Florida.Irwin - whose birth name was Israel and familiar name was Sonny - was born in Philadelphia to Oscar (Usher) and Clara Oster on December 31, 1922. He went to school at South Philadelphia High School. He married Bernice Patricia Oster on August 28th, 1949 in Philadelphia.Irwin was a veteran of WWII and served in the U.S. Army from Oct 13, 1942 to December 18, 1945. He served in the European theater with the Army Air Corps, then the Artillery operating 155mm Howitzers with the 1st Army, 3rd Army, and 776 Field Artillery Battalion. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, in Ardennes.Irwin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was Vice President and Principal Engineer for Albright and Friel of Philadelphia. Later, he was President of Murdoch Engineers in Pittsburgh. He also worked for the State of Florida’s Department of Transportation. Irwin was preceded in death by his wife Bernice who passed on May 7, 1999 at the age of 71, just shy of their 50th anniversary. His brother Jack and sister Rose also predeceased him by many years.Irwin is survived by his spouse Adrienne Oster, to whom he was married in 1999. He is also survived by his son Frederick Oster and daughter in law Catherine Jacobs.
