James was born in Barbados to Nathanael Foster and Muriel Knight on April 27, 1948. He went to school at Grantley Adams Memorial School. He married Pamela Bascombe on April 4, 1997. He worked as a police officer for the Royal Barbados Police Force until 1978. When he moved to the United States he worked as a in Loss Prevention Supervisor.
James is preceded in death by his parents Nathaniel Foster and Muriel Knight and his grandmother Tabitha Foster.
James is survived by his wife Pamela Knight, daughter Linda Patronaggio and son-in-law Brandon Patronaggio, brothers David Foster and Marvin Foster, grandchildren Zachary Patronaggio, Celeste Patronaggio and Shane Patronaggio, stepson Kenneth Jones and Aunt Mary Nicholls. As well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
