

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 24, 1948, son of Rita (nee Ryan) and James Sullivan. He was raised and educated in Philadelphia and at the age of 18, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the height of the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Corporal E-4 and was awarded three Purple Hearts, Combat Action Medal, Cross of Gallantry with a Bronze Leaf, National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Campaign and Service Medal with 3 stars. Following his discharge, he remained in the Marine reserves until 1972.
For many years, Jim worked for Smith Transfer where he was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 107. Prior to his retirement, Jim worked as a Lottery Representative for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and brother, Jim loved and enjoyed his family. His other joy was hunting and spending time in Mt. Pocono. He was a proud member of the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Society, where he served as their Chaplain. He was also a member of the AOH 51 and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1896.
In addition to his mother, Rita B. Sullivan, Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Donna (nee Holdsworth) Sullivan, three children, Timothy (Theresa) Sullivan, Maureen (John) Everly and Katy (David) Shapiro, nine grandchildren, Ashleigh, Kacey and Mia Sullivan, Jared, John, Alexis Everly, Jaden, Sydney and Liliana Shapiro, brother, Philip (Anne) Sullivan and sister Marian (Michael) Croteau as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation on Thursday, October 9th from 9:00 ~ 11:00 A.M. at Fred Hunters Memorial Home, 2401 South University Drive, Davie. A Catholic Service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
Jim will be laid to rest with full military honors on Thursday, October 9th at 1:15 P.M. at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida, Lane #3
