Janice Gabrielle Callahan, 56, of Margate, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014, after an eight-year heroic battle with ovarian cancer. She left with dignity and grace. The youngest child of the late Bruce and Lorraine Miller of Fort Lauderdale, Jan was born in Chicago, but moved with her family to Fort Lauderdale when she was only 6-months old. She remained a South Florida resident her entire life. Jan attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary and graduated from Nova High School. She spent her adult life providing unconditional love and support to her family and raising two beautiful daughters. She was also an adamant animal lover considering her four dogs and four cats an integral part of her family clan. Jan was a proud member of the American Express Company's Fraudulent Investigation Division and also excelled as an employee trainer. But her most admirable accomplishments came as a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Jan was as beautiful on the inside as she was gorgeous in appearance. Her outgoing and always cheerful personality, along with the genuine deep love and caring that she exuded to all with whom she came into contact, leaves us with a loving legacy and provides a true testimony to her wonderful life that we will cherish forever. She will eternally remain an inspiration to everyone. Jan is survived by her husband, Timothy Callahan of Margate; two daughters, Lauren Bloom of Boston and Brittany Gizzi of Margate; four young grandsons, Jonah and Oliver Bloom of Boston, and Austin and Wyatt McKenzie of Margate; two brothers, Michael Miller of St. Louis and Colonel Nick Miller of Waynesville, NC; a sister, Susan Forkey of Boca Raton; an uncle, Dr. Arnold Paolasini of Fort Lauderdale; 3 nephews; 2 nieces; 2 grand nephews and 3 grand nieces. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Ft. Lauderdale. There will be a Mass at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 10:00 am followed immediately by interment at Lauderdale Memorial Park, Ft. Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, www.ocrf.org.
