Jean Nicolas “Nick” Cineus, 77, of El Portal passed away Friday, September 13, 2024, at North Shore Medical Center. Born October 12, 1946, in Croix Des Bouquets, Haiti, he was one of four children of the late Hector and Anna (Mura) Cineus. Orphaned at the young age of twelve, and raised by his Godfather, Nick and his older brother sold wood carvings at the Port of Haiti as teenagers to earn money. This opened an opportunity for employment on the cruise ships. A few years later in his early 20’s, Nick settled in Miami. He worked with the City of Miami until his retirement. Nick lived his life to the fullest. He was a giving person, teaching his family about hard work and saving for the future and was always willing to share wisdom and advise with those who asked. He was the life of the party, always having a smile on his face and leaving a smile with others. He enjoyed the sounds of great musical legends such as Marvin Gaye, Anita Baker, and Teddy Pendergrass. He enjoyed movies, sitcoms and sports. Recently, he came to accept Christ and was saved at The True Gospel Holiness where his daughter is a member.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Cineus; his sister, Marie Marguerite Cineus; his niece, Judith Cineus and his close friend, Excene Loubeau.
Nick is survived by his daughter, Chantal Cineus; his grandchildren, Nicole Cineus, Emmanuel Cineus, Anthony Mauclair; his great-grand daughter, Ashlyn E.
