Born in Mckeesport, Pennsylvania... she was daughter to Alma D. and Charles F. Teemer, and beloved sister to Jack D. Teemer. She then married Douglas Scott McCracken and together they lovingly brought their one child, Nancy McCracken into the world. Nancy McCracken then met Henry Nick and together, they lovingly brought their one child Marissa Alma Nick into the world. Family was everything and most important to Jean.
Jean was the type of woman that all mothers hope their daughters to one day grow up to be. She was undeniably intelligent, grateful, hilarious, adventurous, gorgeous, creative, selfless, caring, curious, forgiving, strong and fearless. She was your all original "Americana kinda' girl"... she loved to jitterbug with her brother, supported the troops and went to Stephens College for Journalism. Golfing was at the top of her list for favorite hobbies, and so was cleaning her house (it was her meditation). Though Jean didn't really enjoy reading books, she did love to write letters to all her friends. She fell in love with art and became a brilliant sculpture ; and her artistic eye allowed her to have the most elegant taste for fashion. She loved going to the beach and meeting her friends at Oceans 11 on the Hollywood Boardwalk, and she was always the life of the party. Jean loved to play cards and hit the casinos. Every week she met with her various card clubs, and Saturday night was poker night with "the gang". In her later years, she even continued to play the slots and became a VIP member at Hard Rock Casino (her dad would have been proud).
I want to say that I, her granddaughter, have been writing her obituary thus far - and I can't believe how many incredible memories continue to flood to mind. Memories that are a true testament to her spirit. Like the time she went white water rafting or swam with stingrays in her late 70's, or when she would take me water sliding and bumper car racing at the arcade. As a grandma she was the best - she took me to dance class and came to every dance concert I had, she played fun pranks on me and my friends when we would have sleepovers, she created shows with me and turned everything we did together into a fun game. She also taught me elegance, grace, manners and discipline. I'm telling you - one fine woman. No mistaking it either... she was the best mother anyone could have. Well, second best to me, only because she raised my mother, Nancy, who is number one to me. But make no mistake... she clearly taught my mom everything she knows.
However, the best thing about Jean was her legacy as a true and sincere FRIEND. Jean Eleanor Teemer McCracken was the definition of a friend by any standard. She had the ability to make anyone, and I do mean anyone... feel special, heard and appreciated. Even to a perfect stranger... she always said "smile and say hello to everyone you see" and she did, and they smiled and said hello right back (no wonder Ms. Jean lived a lifetime full of friendships). Jean had one true goal in life: to give love and receive love right back. And she did just that without a doubt. When my grandmother passed all anyone could say was "I'm loosing one of my best friends". And everyone meant it. Jean had a gift... and her gift was loving life, and offering her friendship selflessly.
