

Born in Queens, New York on April 3, 1930, daughter of Harold and (Josephine) Howell. Joan lost both her parents at age 8 months and was raised by the only parents she knew, Katherine and John Turck. Raised and educated in New York, Joan graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan.
In 1956, Joan met and married her husband, Edward D. Ryan. They came to South Florida on their honeymoon and never returned. They purchased a home in West Park, where she lived up until her death. She was a trained Social Worker, but her real love was being a school teacher for 35 years in Broward County. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed sewing, cooking and decorating. She loved her family and she will be sorely missed by all. A devout catholic, Joan was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church.
Survived by her loving daughters, Tracy Ryan Kidd and her husband Joseph Kidd, Kelly Kwechin and her husband, Carl Kwechin, five adored grandchildren, Katy Tame, Kara Nairn, Allison Teterton, Jessica Kidd and Jackson Kidd and 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Edward D. Ryan in 2008, her siblings, Harold and Tommy Howell, Johnny Turck and Evelyn McAvinue.
Visitation Thursday (Today), August 25th from 6:00 ~ 8:00 P.M. at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 26th at Twelve Noon at Annunciation Catholic Church, 3781 SW 39 Street Hollywood. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
Joan will be laid to rest next to her husband at the South Florida Veterans National Cemetery on Friday afternoon.
