John O. McCracken passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2012. He was born in Clayton, NM on July 19, 1929 and was the last of four children of John and Alta McCracken. He attended public schools in Clayton, NM and Redding, CA and furthered his education at Berkeley, CA and Washington State University in Seattle. He expressed his love of music by playing the clarinet. He served two years in the U.S. Army. He then moved to Washington, D.C., where he began a long career with the U.S. Public Health Service serving in the Division of Dentistry and the Bureau of Health Manpower. When he retired, he continued to live in the Washington, D.C. area until 2004, when he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. John was an avid lover of the sea and each winter sailed in the Caribbean as often as he could. John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Lela and Zell. He is survived by a sister, Naomi McCracken of Colorado Springs, CO and two nieces and a nephew and his life partner, James Boren.
