

After graduating from Fort Lee High School, John enrolled in some classes at Bloomfield College while maintaining an active musical lifestyle as a freelance pianist and organist. Shortly thereafter, John served in the Vietnam Conflict as an MP with the 213th MP Detachment, 1st U.S. Army. After returning to civilian life, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Joan. He became involved in the metallurgical field for both the aerospace and marine industry and as a result, fell in love with sailing. His expertise and knowledge on aluminum helped develop a new seating system on Eastern Airlines in addition to some of the finest yachts in the world. John was a retired Sales Executive and owner of Production Supply Co., a provider of metal products for the yachting industry.
John's love for sailing led him to win several Columbus Day Regatta awards in South Florida on his prized Morgan 34, Windward. He was known as Captain Mudflat to those who had the please to sail with him. He instilled his work hard, be kind to to others and always put your best foot forward attitude to all he met and loved.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan (DeCristorforo); his daughter Jill Westeyn and her fiance, Lindsey Smith of Herndon, Va.; his daughter Tracy and her husband, Tremayne Brown of Severn, Md., his sister, Cheryl Westeyn, of Fort Lee, N.J.; and many loving family members and friends.
