

Jose was born in Lajas, Puerto Rico to Ruben Quinones and Matea Acosta on May 28th, 1936. He married Hilda Justiniano Droz on December 27th, 1958 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, beginning a marriage that would last 67 years, or 72 if you count the years they dated before marriage. He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. He worked as a Vice President for Univis Optical Corp. for over 40 years. He served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, attaining the rank of Major (Infantry, U.S. Army Reserve), having earlier served as Captain (National Guard Association of US – Company A, 65th Infantry). He was active in his community as Vice President of Lions Club International – Guayama, Puerto Rico; First Degree of the Knights of Columbus; and a Member of the American Legion.
Jose is survived by his wife, Hilda; his children, Jose R. (Maria E.), Eduardo (Sandra), Hilda M. (Nick), and Luis A. (Carmen); his grandchildren, Joseph A. (Gino), David Jose (Nicole), Ashley (Fabio), Melissa (Gaby), Luis (Jay), Julie, Kiel, and Brandon (Shelby); and his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Leo Marco, Dante, Mia, Noah, and Remi.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm on July 5th, 2026 at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home. Burial will be Monday, July 6th, 2026 at 2:30 pm, directly in front of Fred Hunter's Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Fred Hunter's Funeral Home.
