Joseph Voltaire Jean-Joseph

Born and raised in Haiti, Voltaire was proud to be part of the Corps d’Aviation d’Haïti, Haiti’s military air arm, where he pursued his training as a student pilot. His time in aviation reflected his love of learning, discipline, and commitment to service.

On September 9, 1965, Voltaire married the love of his life, Marie Augee Genty. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to love, commitment, and devotion. Together, they shared 61 years of marriage, building a life filled with cherished memories, family, and enduring love.

For political reasons, Voltaire eventually emigrated to Miami, where he began a new chapter of his life and built a future for himself and his family. Through hard work, determination, and perseverance, he created a life centered on faith, family, and service. He worked in the banking industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, integrity, and dedication. He approached his work with the same sense of responsibility and excellence that characterized every aspect of his life.

Voltaire found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to cook and took great pleasure in preparing and sharing meals with family and friends. An avid reader, he had a particular appreciation for the timeless language and literature of earlier centuries, finding beauty and meaning in the words of the past. He also had a special affection for the French language and took great delight in speaking it, appreciating its elegance and expressive beauty.

Voltaire also loved poetry and took great delight in memorizing and reciting poems, often sharing them with those around him. One of his favorite lines was, “Quel climat, quel désert a donc pu te cacher?” by Jean Racine. He loved boxing and soccer as well, passions that reflected his appreciation for discipline, skill, and the spirit of competition.

Above all, Voltaire was a man of faith who valued education, believed in serving God, and taught those around him the importance of respect, responsibility, and integrity. His faith and values were the foundation of the life he built and the legacy he leaves behind. Through the example he set, the love he shared, and the values he instilled in those around him, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Joseph Voltaire Jean-Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Massillon Jean-Joseph and Cécile Péan; his brother, Jacques Casimir; his sister, Lydia Jean-Joseph; and his stepfather, Garnier Butler.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 61 years, Marie Augee Jean-Joseph; his children, Marie Elda, Kerby, Ralph, and Peggy; his son-in-law, Donald; his grandchildren, Stacy (Jonathan), Aeryn, and Adonn; his sisters, Christiane Thimoléon and Nelly Thimoléon.

Brothers-in-law: Wilfred (Gladys) Dolly and Raoul (Nicole) Vixamar.

Sisters-in-law: Rose Jeunes and Ghislaine Charles.

Nieces and nephews: Elie, Moise, Lynda, Dolly, Junior, David, and Eddy.

Extended family: The Péan Family, Briette Family, Thimoléon Family, Charles Family, Butler Family, Joseph Family, Pierre Family, Youseline (Petrus) Etienne, Alex Magny, Mildred (Carl) Eloi, Marc Magny, and Maude Magny.
