

It is with profound sadness that the family of Judith (Judy) Lee Cooper announces that she passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2026, at age 82. Judy was born in Brookhaven, New York on August 07,1944 to Virginia Lee Dearborn and Lewis William Brown. At age nine, her mother relocated to Florida, where she spent the rest of her life. In 1965, she married David Cooper, and they were blessed with one child, Jennifer. Judy was a woman of many accomplishments; earning both BA and MS degrees from Barry University. She devoted her entire career to teaching and remained an educator until retiring as an Assistant Principal in 2004. After retiring for a brief time, she went back to work as a tutor for thirteen years at Florida International University.
Her early childhood was on a farm in New York, where she developed a love of animals, Judy was never without her pets. She always had dogs and cats and took care of any other animals that her daughter or grandchildren brought home. She also loved to travel, shop and was an avid reader. Most of all, she was devoted to her family. She helped raise her grandchildren and was always joyfully involved in their activities; always present for basketball games, dance lessons, school plays and other activities. Her family was her life.
She is survived by, and will be greatly missed by her daughter Jennifer, her grandson Dillon DeCapito and granddaughter Brooke DeCapito, her great grandson Mateo Gabriel DeCapito-Briceno, her ex-husband David Cooper and numerous friends.
The Viewing is Sunday September 6th, 2026 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. A Memorial Service will follow starting at 2:30pm.
