He grew up in Hallandale, Florida and graduated from South Broward High School in June 1956. He proudly served our country in the Naval Reserve from July 5, 1955 to July 4, 1963.
After high school, Dave worked for Curcie Brothers as a heavy equipment operator. During this time, his interest in stock car racing grew. He ultimately bought a race car, equipment, hired a driver and raced in NASCAR's modified Southern and New England circuits. He served as NASCAR Crew Chief on the Coca-Cola car for his lifelong friend Bobby Allison for the 1973 season.
In 1967, Dave began his career at Kelly Tractor Co. and worked there for over 51 years until his death. He began his tenure as a Parts & Service Sales Representative. He quickly rose in the organization with Sales and Management positions in Engines and Heavy Equipment Sales. As Senior Vice President, Dave was a leader in the development of the Link-Belt Crane Division, IMT Drill Division, and the Agricultural Equipment Division. He led the expansion into Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi as CEO of Atlantic and Southern Equipment, LLC. For decades, Dave was very active in the Florida Transportation Builders Association, the most important association for the industries Kelly Tractor serves.
As a child, he and his family were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hallandale. He and his wife Judy were members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder, for close to 40 years. Dave was tireless in all of his pursuits. What distinguished him most was his love for people. He would do anything he could to help others and has undeniably touched the lives of so many who hold him dear. He found tremendous enjoyment in his life. You would often find him working on his boat, fishing, watching NASCAR racing and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren who were precious to him.
