

Leela Mata (Sukhu) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and loved ones in Miramar, Florida on October 13th, 2021 at 8:58 PM at the age of 75. Funeral services and visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida 33024.

Leela Mata was born on April 22, 1946 in Bagotville, W.B, Demerara, Guyana to Rani Ganpat and Ganpat Seetal. She was raised by her aunt, Laltie Singh. She married Hari Narine Sukhu (Yogi Hari,) in 1966. In 1975 She and Yogi Hari joined the Sivananda Yoga Ashram where they immersed themselves in the practice and teaching of Yoga and Meditation. In 1982 Leela Mata and Yogi Hari founded the Sampoorna Yoga Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Leela Mata trained in Ayurveda at the Ayurvedic Institute of New Mexico, under the tutelage of Dr.Vasant Lad, the leading authority of Ayurveda in the West. In 2005, she transformed Clarion's historic building - The County Home, built in 1905, to Leela Mata Peaceful Valley Ashram, a 13-acre yoga retreat dedicated to the quest for health, happiness, creative growth, and self realization.
Leela Mata was an avid traveler and has given numerous seminars and lectures worldwide including North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. She spent most of her later years traveling to Germany where she taught at Yoga Vidya International - Europe's largest school for Yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda. Leela Mata was an artist, photographer, and writer. She was a loving sister, mother, and grandmother. She spent her last days with her family in Sri Yogi Hari's Ashram in Miramar, Florida.
Leela Mata is survived by Yogi Hari Sukhu and Her children:
Daughter: Darshanie Radha Sukhu, her husband Markus Matteucci, and children Bala Sai Bernath and Shivaprem Bernath
Son: Anand Sukhu, his wife, Subhashree Sukhu and son Arjun Sukhu
Daughter: Chitra Sukhu, and her children Makaylo Van Peebles and Morgana Van Peebles
Son: Sattya Sukhu and partner Nancy Simoneau
and sisters: Phulmatie Mangar, Sewkumarie Bellrose and husband Chuck Bellrose, Sita Seeram and husband Parmanand Seeram
