

The funeral service will be held on Thursday July 9th, 2020 at Fred Hunters Memorial Chapel. Reverend Gerald O. Gallimore Jr. of 1st Baptist Church of Plantation will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. with service to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Hollywood Memorial Gardens.
Lena Maud Lue Sang Walker, 87 of Fort Lauderdale, FL passed away on June 16, 2020.
Lena was born in Craig Hill, St. Andrew Parish Jamaica West Indies on August 28, 1932 to the late Ruth Josephine Atkins and George Lue Sang. She attended Convent Catholic School.
At an early age, Lena’s love of fashion drew her to learn the skill of sewing, which became her calling and early profession as a Seamstress. She was beloved in her community for opening her home to apprentice many young girls. It is also a skill she passed on to her youngest daughter. Lena also played an active role in social causes and volunteered at polling stations during general elections in Jamaica.
Lena gave birth to two daughters, Maureen and Carolyn. In 1956 Lena married the love of her life, the late Nathan Robert Walker. To this union three children were born, Wayne, Paul and Jerome (deceased).
Lena migrated to the United States in 1967 and resided in Brooklyn, New York. She worked as a Nurse’s Assistant in the Kingsborough Hospital, and Menorah Center for Nursing, from where she retired in 2002. In July 2007, she and her husband relocated to Plantation, Florida.
Lena loved to garden and nurtured every space of land around her home to grow an abundance of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, sunflowers being her favorite. She enjoyed the camaraderie among her family and friends on birthdays and holidays. She would often prepare her favorite Jamaican dishes and who could forget her sorrel at Christmas. She loved to dance, on her 80th birthday celebration she took turns in dancing with just about everyone in attendance of course she outlasted everyone on the dance floor.
Lena joins her dear husband Bob in eternal rest. She will be forever cherished in memory by daughters Maureen and Carolyn; sons Wayne and Paul; nine grandchildren Melissa, Anton, Chantel, Fantasia, Tiffannie, Cidney, Julian, Don Paul and Zaynah; five great grandchildren Romell ,Cassidy, Carter, Amina and Anthon; sisters Lynneth, Elethia, Janet, Annmarie and Sharon; nieces Gail, Dawn, Sade, Shanee; nephews Donny, Desmond , Mark, Kevin, Jamal and Shawn; an extended family and friends. She will be dearly missed. May her soul rest in peace.
